Brazil

Brazil is the largest producer of coffee in the world, with a range that encompasses smallholder farms to vast estates. The soils, regional climate, and temperatures provide excellent growing conditions. However, Brazil lacks the altitude considered crucial for creating the most exclusive taste profiles expected from Arabica coffee. Much of its coffee is grown at or below 1,000 meters above sea level—much lower than the typical 1,400–1,800 meters found in many other coffee-producing nations.

Over the past decade, Brazil has worked hard to promote itself as a sustainable origin. Global attention has prompted various legislatures to enforce the protection of indigenous habitats and forestry. Many estates have gone further by creating substantial conservation areas on their properties and proving their commitment to sustaining and developing the overall coffee chain by certifying their farms. The typical flavor profile of Brazilian coffee includes notes of nuts, caramel, and a creamy body. However, as producers develop new techniques, newfound sweetness, citrus, and acidity are becoming more common.

Andrade family

The Andrade family's history began in 1901 when their ancestors established the Capim Branco Farm in Carmo do Paranaíba, High Cerrado, state of Minas Gerais. With the aim to produce high-quality coffees, the new generation of the Andrade family established their farms in this region during the '70s. This region has an altitude between 1,100 and 1,200 meters, which provides ideal conditions for growing coffee due to its perfect balance of wet and dry seasons.

Combined with the natural conditions of the region, the correct management of crops, crop planning, and post-harvest with selection criteria of cherries, grains, and natural drying, the results are excellent quality, award-winning beans appreciated worldwide.

The volcanic soils are perfect for growing Yellow Icatu, Yellow Catuaí, and Red Catuai varietals, which thrive here and account for the majority of the farm's yield. This is where Brazil's one of the best natural coffee beans are produced.

Variety

Catuai

Our Andrade family coffee selection includes a lot of Yellow Catuai beans, which are known for their unique flavor profile. "Catuai" means "very good" in the Tupi-Guarani language of Brazil's native tribes, and this hybrid between Mundo Novo and Yellow Caturra lives up to its name..

Processing

To ensure the highest quality beans, the Andrade family uses an advanced mechanical picker to harvest the Yellow Catuai cherries when they reach peak ripeness. The coffee cherries are then sorted using a density selection machine to remove any defective cherries or depulped seeds that might negatively affect the flavor. Once the defective cherries are removed, the cherries pass through an electronic color sorter to ensure even ripeness. Only the best, ripest cherries are selected for further processing. The coffee lot is then transported to drying patios to undergo natural sun-drying.

After the drying process is complete, the beans are shipped to our roastery and roasted to perfection by our team at Rocket Bean.
